Much of the action at the pond occurs below the water's surface. An underwater video camera was used at various times during the year to observe changes in plant, insect and amphibian life.

As there are no fish at this seasonal pond, large numbers of several species of dragonflies emerge during the summer months.

One of the most significant resident of the pond is the Pacific Tree frog. In early March, these frogs begin to congregate in great numbers, starting a season of nightly choruses. This begins the mating season. It is not long after this that egg masses begin to appear 20-30cm below the water surface.
